In March 2017, Westinghouse successfully achieved AP1000® nuclear power plant design review by regulators in the United Kingdom, who concluded their Generic Design Assessment (GDA) by issuing Design Acceptance Confirmation (DAC) and Statement of Design Acceptability (SoDA) for the Westinghouse technology.
The DAC and SoDA were issued by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA), respectively. This assessment process was carried out in an open and transparent manner, designed to facilitate the involvement of the public, who were able to view and comment on design information published online.
The global AP1000® fleet is comprised on Sanmen Units 1 & 2 and Haiyang Units 1 & 2, all currently in commercial operations in China. Additionally, there are two units currently under construction at the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant near Waynesboro, Georgia, USA. Westinghouse continues to provide the design, critical equipment, training and testing for each of the units.
