Shaping tomorrow’s energy together for a cleaner, better future

The United Nations states it simply: “Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today.” It’s true. Over the next 20 years, the world population is expected to grow 25% and, by 2030, demand for electricity will nearly double.

Finding solutions to our increased energy needs while confronting the realities of a changing climate might be the most pressing issue of our time. Yet, those two challenges don’t have to be in conflict. Today, we have the unprecedented opportunity to redefine tomorrow’s energy.

Using nuclear power, we can meet the growing demands for renewable energy that wind and solar alone cannot, while creating the clean, sustainable, energy-abundant future the world aspires to.

Changing A Changing Climate

The Earth’s temperature continues to rise, causing summer arctic sea ice to shrink, polar ice sheets to melt and sea levels to rise. As the world’s largest source of carbon-free energy, nuclear power can help reverse these trends and meet decarbonization deadlines established by the world’s leading climate scientists.

What It Means To Be Carbon-Free

Nuclear energy prevents more than 528 million metric tons of carbon dioxide that would otherwise emit from fossil fuel combustion from entering our atmosphere. That is equal to taking 111 million passenger vehicles off the road. Imagine all the future carbon emissions we can prevent.

Better, Together

A typical nuclear reactor produces one gigawatt of electricity – close to the same amount generated by two coal-burning plants. By supplementing other intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar with nuclear power, we can create a carbon-free power grid that’s always on.

Westinghouse is the world’s leading supplier of safe, innovative nuclear technology

More than 130 years ago, George Westinghouse revolutionized energy distribution by commercializing alternating current technology. Today, his namesake company continues to shape tomorrow’s energy.

While our daily work entails providing nuclear energy technologies, products and services to utilities around the world, our mission is focused on a much broader goal; using the power of intellect, collaboration and innovation to build on the legacy of our founder, and to create a cleaner, safer and sustainable carbon-free future for generations to follow.
