Grant/Sponsorship Application Process

Westinghouse believes in giving back to surrounding communities.

The Westinghouse Charitable Giving Program enables our company to provide financial support to communities in one or more of our strategic areas of giving in Hopkins, Gadsden and Eastover.

If your organization’s request meets the criteria of one or more of our strategic areas of giving described below, we welcome you to apply for a grant. Please note that Westinghouse accepts applications on a rolling basis and there is no maximum on the amount requested.

Westinghouse Strategic Areas of Giving

Education with a focus on STEM

Education grants with a focus on STEM are used to improve knowledge and literacy with a focus in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math among students, teachers and the general public.

Consider the following questions when developing your ask.

  1. Will this grant enhance a STEM subject-matter for students or teachers in all or any grades, kindergarten through college/university level, or for the general public?
  2. Will the grant assist an overall mission of educating?
  3. Will the grant be used to help spark an interest in STEM-related careers among youth?
  4. Will the grant support providing scholarships to students in a 20-mile radius of our Columbia facility?

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental Sustainability grants are used to enrich programs with the goal of preserving or restoring land, air, water or biodiversity. A comfortable standard of living is important to Westinghouse to ensure technological advancement and a sustainable planet for future generations.

Consider the following questions when developing your ask.

  1. Will this grant help promote at least one of the following areas: preserving or restoring land, clean air, clean water, renewable energy or biodiversity?
  2. Will the grant help advance a technology that will enhance environmental sustainability?
  3. Does my organization have a history of demonstrating our dedication to clean land, air, water, or biodiversity?

Community Safety and Vitality

Community Safety and Vitality grants are used to improve the overall quality of life within a community by supporting initiatives that enhance safety and public well-being. Safety, health and wellness are vitally important to Westinghouse; our community commitment does not start and stop at the workplace door, but safety, health and wellness continue at home and in our community.

Consider the following questions when developing your request.

  1. Will my grant be used to enhance the community’s general safety and security?
  2. Will the grant be used to promote wellness and enrich the community it serves?
  3. Will the grant be used to expand safety, health and/or wellness not only outside a workplace but also inside a workplace?
  4. Will the grant be used for opportunities to engage and gather residents within a 20-mile radius of the Columbia facility?
  5. Will the grant be used to support individuals from vulnerable populations including veterans, seniors, persons with disabilities, and low income communities.

Considerations

  • All applications must be completed by a 501(c)3 organization
  • United Way member agencies receiving direct allocations or grants from any United Way Impact or General Fund are not eligible to receive Westinghouse grants
  • Eligible sponsorships must demonstrate a clear benefit to residents within the ZIP codes 29209, 29061, and 29044.
  • Westinghouse is unable to fund
    • Any organization that benefit any political cause, such as candidates, campaigns, or those with the primary purpose of influencing legislation.
    • Organizations that discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, citizenship status or any other basis protected by law.
    • Religious-affiliated organizations
    • Labor or fraternal groups
    • Athletic support
  • Events such as galas and golf outings that are not community focused and available to all community members are unable to be supported.
  • Grants are unavailable to be used for community event advertising.
  • General endowment funds are unable to be supported by Westinghouse funds.
  • Since Westinghouse only gives grants to organizations with nonprofit status, individuals are unable to be supported.
  • Salaries or stipends cannot be covered by Westinghouse grants.
  • Capital improvement or building projects are unable to be supported by Westinghouse grants.
